Venus Viridimaris Ring

 Sea-Green Venus

Handcrafted one-of-a-kind sterling silver ring set with a 6mm white sapphire heart, a 6x4mm oval and pear aquamarine, 4mm emerald and a 3mm emerald, 3x 2.5mm aquamarine and a 2mm London Blue topaz. Size 9.

Named for the meeting of blue and green waters, this one-of-a-kind ring evokes coastal shallows where sunlight passes through clear sea over pale sand, lit with flashes of emerald like submerged green sea-glass. I first hand sculpted the ring in jeweller’s wax, shaping the flowing wave-like forms so that the silver rises and moves around the stones like water in motion. At its centre is a heart-cut white sapphire, surrounded by oval and pear aquamarines, flanked by two emeralds, with small sapphires, aquamarines, and a single London blue topaz set among them like a darker glint in the tidepool. The original wax carving was then cast in solid sterling silver, and set by hand with each natural gemstone, preserving the sculptural form.

Aquamarine belongs to the beryl family, a stone named in Agrippa’s Three Books of Occult Philosophy among the gemstones belonging to Venus, while emerald is one of her oldest and most traditional stones in lapidary lore. Together they unite two of her most enduring gem correspondences.
